This photo was taken on the steps of Lockhouse 7 in Maryland overlooking the C&O Canal.
Lockhouse 7 in Maryland, which is part of the C&O Canal National Historical Park, was constructed in the early 1830s. A contract for its construction was let on March 18, 1829, and it was the first lockhouse to be completed, finished by August 1, 1829. This makes Lockhouse 7 nearly 200 years old.
It's one of seven historic lockhouses on the C&O Canal that have been restored and made available for overnight stays as part of the Canal Quarters program. These lockhouses provide visitors with a unique opportunity to experience a piece of the canal's history.
